A vacuum packing machine seals finished cashew kernels in an oxygen-free pack so they reach the buyer as fresh and whole as they left the grading line. Cashew kernels are rich in oil, and oil turns rancid the moment it meets air — so the last machine in the plant is the one that protects everything the cutting, drying, and grading stages worked to produce. CASHEW TECH’s line draws the air out of a food-grade PE bag and flushes it with nitrogen gas, in the two standard export sizes of 11.34 kg (25 lb) and 22.68 kg (50 lb), plus retail packs from 500 g to 1 kg. This page explains how the sealing works, the real specifications, and how packing fits the end of the processing line.
Packing is not an afterthought — for a premium food headed across oceans, it is the stage that decides whether the kernel arrives at grade or arrives spoiled.
What Vacuum Packing Does for Cashew Kernels
The whole point of the exercise is to remove oxygen. A cashew kernel is rich in oil, and that oil oxidises on contact with air, developing the stale, painty flavour of rancidity that no buyer accepts. Pull the air out and seal the pack, and oxidation slows sharply; add a nitrogen flush and it slows further still. That is why vacuum packing is the standard for exported kernels, and why a plant’s whole quality effort can be undone by packing badly at the end.
Beyond freshness, a tight seal does two more jobs: it protects fragile whole kernels from crushing during long sea journeys, and it shuts out moisture and pests, a real risk in warm storage and transit. Nitrogen-flushed and vacuum-sealed, cashews typically stay fresh for six months to a year — well beyond what an unsealed pack can hold. For the wider view of how kernels are boxed, tinned, and labelled for market, see the cashew packing and packaging guide.
How the Line Works
CASHEW TECH’s packing line runs the graded kernel through four linked stages. Kernels are collected in a raw material cask and moved by a food-grade SS 304 bucket conveyor. A vibration sieve filters out dust, dirt, and broken pieces from the kernel stream, and an inspection conveyor gives operators a last look to remove any unwanted or uncleaned nuts. A vibrating plate then meters and weighs the kernels into the pack, before the bag is flushed with nitrogen gas, vacuum-sealed, and closed.
The whole sequence — from raw kernel intake to a sealed, gas-flushed pack — runs as one automatic line, so an operator supervises and checks weights rather than handling kernels by hand at every stage.

Nitrogen Gas Flush
Vacuum alone extends shelf life; vacuum plus a nitrogen flush extends it further. The machine draws the air from the pack and backfills it with nitrogen before sealing — an inert gas that displaces the remaining oxygen and cushions the kernels, protecting them both chemically and physically. This nitrogen-flush-and-seal sequence is standard on every export bag CASHEW TECH packs, not an optional extra.
Choosing a Packing Machine
Choosing well comes down to three questions. First, what packs do you sell — retail pouches, export tins, or both? Second, what volume must it clear, so packing never becomes the bottleneck that holds up dispatch? Third, do you export? If so, a nitrogen gas flush is not optional — it is the feature that gives cashews their extended shelf life. Beyond price, food-grade SS 304 construction and a reliable seal are what keep a packing line earning year after year rather than costing a shipment to a bad seal.

Where It Fits in Processing
Packing is the last stage in the line, fed directly from grading. Kernels arrive from the cashew nut sorting machine already graded by size and quality, are weighed and bagged here, then move to cartoning and dispatch. See the full cashew machines hub or the end-to-end cashew manufacturing process to place packing in the complete flow. For the grades that go into each pack, see the cashew kernels reference, the cashew grades breakdown, and cashew kernels price per kg. The consumables this machine fills — woven PP bags and corrugated master boxes — plus a dedicated retail packaging machine for branded pouches, are available through processing supplies.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a vacuum packing machine used for? It removes the air from a bag of cashew kernels and seals it, so the oil-rich kernels do not oxidise and turn rancid. CASHEW TECH’s line also flushes every export pack with nitrogen gas, which extends shelf life and cushions the kernels against crushing in transit.
How long does vacuum packing keep cashews fresh? Nitrogen-flushed, vacuum-sealed cashews typically stay fresh for six months to a year — the vacuum and gas flush remove the oxygen that causes the oil in the kernel to turn rancid.
What sizes does the machine pack? Retail packs from 500 g to 1 kg, and the two standard export bag sizes of 11.34 kg (25 lb) and 22.68 kg (50 lb). Custom mould sizes can be made on request.
Can I vacuum pack cashews at home? A domestic sealer will keep home-stored kernels fresh for a while, but it cannot match commercial results — it lacks the even machine vacuum and the nitrogen flush that give exported cashews their long shelf life. If you do vacuum-seal cashews at home, keep them cool and dark and use them within a few weeks.
